"Reflections and POSITIVITY"
***************************************
This past week has been a historic one in our country, with the spread of the Covid-19 virus affecting nearly everyone's lives, certainly by the end of the week if not at the beginning. At the beginning of the week, my main concern was getting three IEPs written for a meeting on Wednesday. By the end of the week, I beginning to wonder how I'll pay my bills soon, with the closure of all Ohio schools....and just how many people are going to suffer because of this pandemic.
Today, I've been thinking about all the words and phrases I've heard this past week that are becoming more and more common to hear, and I decided to make a list.
Words I've heard many times this week:
abundance of caution
unprecedented
once in a lifetime
health crisis
global pandemic
national emergency
social distancing
self-isolation
quarantine
lockdown
community spread
telecommuting
work from home
necessary precautions
travel restrictions
anxiety
panic
A lot of those words are downright scary. We heard those words on the news, we read them online, we heard them in press conferences. This past week, our lives have been filled with words that cause alarm, uncertainty, anxiety, stress, and panic. By the end of the week, I was feeling the stress, and I used my writing to try to change my stress level. I wanted to feel more calm. I wanted to feel more comforted. So I wrote about words that made me feel more calm...and I did! The next day, I wrote about hope. I felt even better. I realized that I want to continue writing about positive things. (I've always believed that you can find something positive in any situation, if you look hard enough...and now I know that if you can find it, you can write about it.)
So today, I'm focusing on the word "positivity." I looked it up in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, and found this:
Definition of "positivity:"
1 : the quality or state of being positive
2 : something that is positive
Thesaurus.com lists this for "positivity:"
noun: affirmative willingness
Synonyms for positivity:
alacrity
eagerness
positiveness
readiness
zeal
confidence
willingness
Positivity
affirmative
helping
boost
boost
willingness
positiveness
thankful
positiveness
thankful
confidence
readiness
happiness
community
I'm feeling more positive already!
