Slice of Life Story Challenge 2021 -- Day 11

"Before 2020, 'Zoom' Was Something a Car Did" "
**********************************************************************
We've been living with this pandemic for a year now....more than a year in some parts of the world. It was just about a year ago that the shutdown was starting in the United States. And it was exactly a year ago today that the World Health Organization declared that a global pandemic was occurring.
This morning I was thinking about some words and phrases that teachers regularly use right now, that a year ago we never would have imagined had anything to do with education. They are all real words. They are just not words that were commonly associated with teaching, learning, and schools....until Covid-19 happened.
My list:
Zoom
In-person learning
Hybrid learning
"Remember your social distancing, students."
"Raymond, fix your mask."
"That student is in quarantine right now."
"Alex, you need to mute yourself."
"I'll work in a breakout room with Sarah and James."
"Mary, present your screen, please."
"Naomi, you can't talk while your mask is off."
"Join the Google Meet at 2:00 PM for the IEP meeting."
What once-unimaginable words and phases do you hear yourself saying now?

If we had ever said, "[student], you need to mute yourself" pre-COVID, all of us would have been reprimanded by our supervisors. It's just wild how times have changed. I think something that surprises me still is that we have learned to 'forgive' the speaker because the screen has frozen ...again, our supervisors would not have had such patience with us!
ReplyDeleteOh, absolutely, Maureen! It IS amazing how things can change in ways we never could have predicted!
DeleteI connected so much with this post. This year, I ask, "Can you see my screen" way more than I ever thought I would have to!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. It boggles the mind, actually! :-)
