SOL20 Day 27 - Green Is...

Slice of Life Story Challenge 2020 -- Day 27 March 27, 2020
"Green Is...."

Green Is...

Green is...
freshly cut grass
summer leaves on trees
a St. Patrick's Day shamrock
soy bean plants in Ohio farm fields
newly emerging daffodil leaves in spring
clover growing in my back yard
pine trees deep in the forest
the Irish countryside
nature's color
green

SOL20 Day26 - Unplanned Inspiration

Slice of Life Story Challenge 2020 -- Day 26
March 26, 2020
"Unplanned Inspiration"

These are some texts that I sent to one of my family group text threads today:

~*~*~
12:22 PM -- I'm sitting outside to write this afternoon. Going to enjoy today's sunshine and warmer temperatures while I can! 😎 (Clouds and rain will be moving in later this afternoon.) Here's a view from my back yard swing! 😊 12:29 PM -- Chionodoxa (I hope I spelled it correctly...I'm not taking the time to look it up), more commonly called Glory-of-the-Snow, blooming in my back yard. I'm not sure how their tiny bulbs ended up in my back yard, but they got transported from my front flower bed somehow. Birds? The wind? I don't know; I just enjoy them. 😊 12:36 PM -- I'll get to my writing soon. 😊 But first, one last picture! 😉 This is Kacie, enjoying the sunshine with her chew toy. It's funny...any time I get to within about 10 feet of her, she gets up and moves. She's afraid I'm going to try to steal her chew toy, haha! Either that, or she's practicing her social distancing. 😜
~*~*~ Welllllllllllllllll, I was SO enjoying the spring weather and the communication with my family that I didn't get to my planned writing. I continued to take pictures... My neighbor's flowers Wildflowers (I think?) growing in my back yard ...and I continued to text for quite a while...until I decided to scrap the idea that I WAS going to write about, and go with the writing which I had already done! I love the stories that these texts and pictures tell. When I write, sometimes I just have to go with whatever is inspiring me in that moment! And SPRING seems to be inspiring me today! :-) ************************************************* JudyK March 26, 2020

SOL20 Day 25 - "A Breath of Fresh Air"

Slice of Life Story Challenge 2020 -- Day 25
March 25, 2020
"A Breath of Fresh Air"
***************************************
**********************

After so many recent overcast days and plentiful rain, we were privileged to have some sunshine today!! Sunshine -- so scarce during the winter months -- always makes my heart happy this time of year. The sun shone brightly all day, and the temperatures warmed up to the point that we decided to turn off the heat and open the windows of the house. What a pleasure that was! We took our dog for a walk this evening, and saw quite a few neighbors out in their yards, also enjoying the long-waited-for sunshine and warmth.

Now that it's quite late in the evening, it has cooled off outside, yet we still have our windows open. I can hear the call of tree frogs outside, and I am still enjoying the smell of that beautiful spring air wafting in through the windows.

And that is what inspired me to write this happy Haiku poem tonight:

"Breath of fresh air" is

Not metaphoric today;

Spring air fills our home.

SOL20 Day 24 - Another Six Word Story

Slice of Life Story Challenge 2020 -- Day 24
March 24, 2020
"Another Six Word Story"
***************************************
**********************

I'm going to do another 6-word story for my writing today because I have a lot going on and I'm short on writing time! So, what is going on in my life right now, that I can write a 6-word memoir for? Well, the whole Covid-19 virus pandemic which is affecting the entire world right now is, of course, the main topic of discussion for everyone. There's the fact that all of Ohio is now (as of midnight last night) officially under stay-at-home orders, except for essential businesses. And of course, the fact that all schools in Ohio have been closed for at least a week now, and I haven't been able to work for the past week, and have gotten no pay....well, that's been just a tad important for me.  So, in other words, there's nothing much going on in my life. Ha!!!

The good news is that I got word today that I'm going to be able to start working part time from home for my school. I'll have some money coming in, and I'll be able to actually provide some much-needed services to my students. I'm excited! The bad news is that I have to learn some new technology before tomorrow morning so that I can take part in some online meetings that start at 8:30 AM. I've got my work cut out for me for this evening!!

Okay, with all that said, here is my 6-word memoir for today:

Drop everything else;
learn technology tonight!

SOL20 Day 23 - Yesterday's Noticings

Slice of Life Story Challenge 2020 -- Day 23
March 23, 2020
"Yesterday's Noticings"
***************************************

Yesterday's Noticings

During my walk around my neighborhood yesterday, I observed many things, and I managed to get pictures of some of them. I saw a robin which had just grabbed a worm from a puddle in the street, and I would have loved to have gotten a picture of him with the worm dangling out of his mouth, but he was too fast for me. (Concerned that I would steal the worm from him, I'm sure...[Umm, yum?]...he flew away quickly.)

I also sat on the glider on my front porch for a while, and observed things there. I walked around in my back yard, looking and listening. I sat on a swing in my backyard for a long time, breathing in the fresh air and noticing. All in all, I spent several hours outside, being observant. It was so very wonderful to see all the life around me!

Here is a bit of what I saw:

I looked high

View from my front porch glider          View from my back yard swing

and low

Crocus blooming               My shadow

Purple wildflower? Weed?                         Dog tracks in the mud

Kacie hears a nearby dog barking.               A "Glory-of-the-Snow" blooming in my yard?

and all around.

One corner of my back yard               Nearby metro park land

As I looked at some things that I had noticed on my previous walk around the neighborhood, I saw how they had changed.

Flooded ditch along the entrance to the water plant            Much less water in the ditch...and much nicer skies!

I observed and I marveled, and I noticed and I wondered.

It was a lovely way to look at life.
